Le Puy Emilien

Le Puy has been in the Amoreau family since 1610. It overlooks the Dordogne river and is on the same geological plateau as St Emilion and Pomerol. The 50 hectares of vineyards are spread over 3 plots with soils of clay, limestone and silica.
Located at the top of the most prestigious clay and astéries limestone plateau on the right bank of the Garonne, le Puy dominates the Dordogne Valley. At an altitude of 107m, it is the second highest geodesic point of the Gironde department. This position lent its name to the site as of Roman times; le Puy means a high place, a podium or mountain peak.
The reds are based on a majority of Merlot and some Cabernet Franc and Carmenere, the whites from old vine Semillon and the rose by “saignée” method from Merlot. Organic and biodynamic the wines are naturally fermented with no or minimal additions of sulphur and long ageing in old barrels. This results in wines with great finesse, energy and outstanding ageing potential.
