Camino Real - Adega Guimaro

Pedro Rodríguez of Adega Guimaro was among the first growers bringing international attention to the remote region of Ribeira Sacra. Although his family was making wine for as long as they remember, it was only in 1991 that they started bottling it, joining the newly created DO couple of years later. They named their winery “Guimaro”(meaning “rebel” in Gallego) – as a tribute to Pedro’s grandfather. Continuing the work of his parents, Pedro has managed to bring the estate on to the next level. In early 2000 he collaborated with Raúl Pérez, who helped him realise the potential of the old plots of vines located on the steep, south facing slopes composed mainly of granite, schist, and slate. With time, the best parcels
were identified, yields reduced, and organic farming implemented. In his effort to transmit the essence of the place, Pedro chooses to focus on the viticulture, keeping things simple in the winery.
