Johnatan García of Suertes Del Marqués is
a winemaker who never loses the sight of the
tradition. The use of native yeasts is a key factor
in his wine-making process. Both stainless steel and concrete
tanks are utilized in the winery while ageing in Burgundy barrels
and larger format foudre is part of the elaboration process. This
combined with the personality of the plot where the grapes are
grown imbues his wines with unique identity and character.
The estate “El Esquilón”, is located in the area known as “Las
Suertes” in the mid - region of La Orotava Valley. It is a 9 ha.
vineyard consisting of 21 plots, rising in altitude from 350 to 700
meters above the sea level. The vineyards are mostly composed
of old, ungrafted vines of black and white Listan grapes, which
coexist with other native varietals. A unique method of vine
training called “Trenzado” (multiple cordon) is traditionally used.
