Cantayano
2023
Cantalapiedra Viticultores is a family run estate since 1949, in
the village of La Seca the heart of Rueda. They have been working
organically for 15 years and mainly selling their grapes. They started
bottling their own wines in 2014 and acquired more old, ungrafted
plots of vines. Artisinal minded noninterventionist Manuel is striving to produce
authentic terroir driven Verdejo. Due to the more authentic soil
expressionistic wines and less commercial styles Artisanal producers
like him are excluded from the Rueda DO and label their wines under
the Castilla y Leon Umbrella. Inspired by the potential of the Verdejo
grape and the old dry-farmed vineyards, he has focused on bottling
of small parcels that highlight the unique heritage of Rueda and Toro.
Cantayano is from 3 parcels, destemmed and macerated up to 24hrs
before pressing, wild yeast fermented in Tank and 10% French oak on
lees for 8 months, before fining and bottling without filtration.
La Otea is from 150year old, ungrafted vines on sandy soils, whole
bunch pressed and fermented in 600l French barrel for 11months on
lees. Bottled unfiltered and unfined.
