Bouzeron Les Loueres
2022
Bastien, a first-generation winemaker, founded Maison Gautheron d’Anost and made his first wines in 2020. From the outset he’s been capturing the hearts and palates of wine lovers all over.
Wines of fraternity, Bastien’s range is split between those from small own-vine holdings in Savigny-les-Beane, the Hautes Cotes de Beaune and the new Bourgogne-Dijon appellation, and a negociant range with grapes purchased from friends with the same ethos – organic and sustainable. He is one of the new generation of Burgundian vignerons looking to reinforce the terroir-vine bond through hard work in the vines and low intervention, considered winemaking.
Bastien’s approach sees whites fermenting directly in barrel and partially-destemmed reds in small stainless steel VAT. Contrary to the long élevage popular in Burgundy now, Bastien’s wines spend about eight months in barrel and they see an element of new or second use oak, with a small dose of sulphur before bottling. The shorter élevage allows Bastien to incorporate an elegant oak frame into the wines whilst keeping them approachable – allowing the evolution to take place more in bottle than in barrel. The result is pure precision and nuance, a faithful representation of terroir that can be enjoyed now or for many years to come.
Each cuvée displays depth, power and a luscious, life-giving energy. For us, these wines bridge the gap, stylistically, between classic and modern Burgundy, ticking all the boxes and delivering everything you’d expect from the famed terroirs that Bastien vinifies. The whites are decadent, with a modest richness and soupçon of oak influence, the reds burst with concentrated berry fruits, silky tannins and spice. Small production from some of the greatest terroirs, these wines are at home on the greatest lists, shelves and tables.
Keeping with his sustainable rhetoric, all bottles are 95% recycled, and the labels are 100% recycled.
